The Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg, ZSW) was founded by the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg along with various institutions and companies. Our work focuses on industry-related research and development in the areas of photovoltaics, renewable fuels such as hydrogen and methane, battery technology and fuel cells, as well as the economic analyses of energy systems. We assist industry by transforming research results into marketable products, thereby developing economically, ecologically and socially sustainable energy concepts. For the research department Accumulators Materials Research, ECM, at the Ulm site, we are seeking as soon as possible a

Post-Doc (m/f) 

For cooperation in projects in the field of beyond Li-ion batteries.

Your areas of activity:

  • Investigation of metal dissolution and deposition reactions in aprotic electrolytes
  • Investigation of passivating films eventually forming on the metal surfaces
  • Development of new electrolytes and electrolyte additives that enable efficient redox processes at the anode
  • Investigation of the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions in aprotic media.

Your profile:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Electrochemistry or Physics
  • Thorough knowledge of Electrochemistry, where having experience on batteries would be a plus
  • Experimental, hands-on experience in the electrochemical characterisation of metal stripping and plating
  • Experimental, hands-on experience in the electrochemical characterisation of electrode materials and devices using cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge/discharge, impedance spectroscopy, R(R)DE etc.
  • Experimental, hands-on experience in electrochemical characterization of oxygen reduction and evolution
  • Experimental, hands-on experience in the microstructural characterization of electrodes using SEM, IR, Raman, X-ray diffraction and XPS
  • A strong publication record, commensurate with experience, in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability of adapting to new field of research, out-of-box thinking
  • Excellent oral and communication skills, including the proven ability to write in English at a suitable standard for the preparation of written reports, publications and presentations of the work at generalist and specialist levels, including discussions with collaborators and scientists in different fields
  • Well-organised and self-motivated with the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project, to identify research objectives and to carry out appropriate research activities within a given timescale
